For Point Loma native Abel Kaase, opening Sessions Public feels like arriving at a destination he's been heading towards his whole life. He has always loved to cook — and eat; Sessions Public is the result of his desire and drive to put that love into action.
Abel grew up in the San Diego peninsula community of Point Loma, immersed in its beach and oceangoing culture and laid-back attitude, tight-knit neighborhoods and family eateries. Although he has some experience in food service, his first profession was real estate development and construction management. When the recession cooled that market, he saw an opportunity to bring to life his dream of owning a restaurant. He saw it as a place where he and his family and friends would want to hang out, enjoying good food, beer and wine at affordable prices and a convivial atmosphere. At the same time, he was committed to supporting local vendors, using sustainable and repurposed materials wherever possible, and giving back to the community that has been his family's home for generations. One year nearly to the day later, Abel opened Sessions Public.
Sessions Public, whose name references both going surfing and going out for some drinks with friends, transforms a familiar space on a Point Loma hilltop where an old-fashioned pizzeria used to be into Abel's place. With its emphasis on friends and family, farm-to-table comfort food, craft beer, and good times, Sessions Public is about paring a restaurant down to its essentials. We look forward to lifting a glass with you.
